Running this Quest

You can adjust any of the information below according to your campaign, preference or imagination. Feel free to experiment and let other visitors know what works for you in the comments below.

A woman in dirty old clothes walk up to you. She holds her arms out as if she’s begging for food or coin. Her arms and face are covered in open wounds, glistening wet. You can smell an awful stench when she closes in. “Hello traveler. You look nice!” she says as if she really serious about it.  “No need to help out a poor woman, that’s for sure.” Her breath smells of rotting flesh.

The woman is cursed to look ugly and repell anyone. The curse also prevents her from talking about the curse or asking for help. Players may wish to act at this point. The fact she is cursed can be discovered by casting detect magic against DC15. To determine the curse roll against DC25.

She holds out her hand and says “I mean you no harm, truly!” She looks you in the eyes. You can see the corners of her eyes and mouth are crusted with yellow flakes of dried pus. “Let me help you! You don’t have to help me.” She tries to smile but her eyes remain saddened. “You certainly don’t have to kiss me!” she laughs. She has three teeth left, which are blackened and yellow. Her tongue is white and cracked like a dried up riverbed. “You certainly wouldn’t have to kiss me.”

To lift the curse she needs to be kissed, but she can’t ask for this or even speak about it. That is why she needs to talk in riddles. She spent years like this, and along the way she lost some of her sanity because of it. She has almost stopped hoping that one day she will be saved.

Risks and Rewards

If a players kisses her, he or she receives a point of inspiration. The curse is lifted and she returns to be a handsome young woman, free of her nasty sickness. She is eternally grateful and as a reward offers you a small token of appreciation. It is a necklace of a leather strap with a glass bead, which has some personal value to her. Ofcourse, she could also carry something tied to your main quest, like a map for instance.

Devious players

Some players may try to rob her (DC10 stealth check). They will find the necklace. Some players may wish to killl her. In this case she will run away to seek help with nearby people. If she gets killed, the curse is lifted and she returns to her natural look.
